Different Webbing Types

The webbing is very useful for our different bags,  such as backpack,  travel bags,  custom bags , cooler bags etc. But how to choose the right webbing ?

Understanding Webbing Types & Materials

First, let's briefly talk about webbing materials. Sailrite webbing options are made from six different materials. Some material offerings have a few varieties to choose from, while others are only offered in one standard or heavy duty variety:

• Cotton/polyester blend webbing: Heavy duty variety.
• Dyneema® webbing: Standard variety.
• Nylon webbing: Standard, heavy duty and tubular varieties.
• Polyester webbing: Grosgrain, standard, super heavy duty, tubular and seat belt varieties.
• Polypropylene webbing: Standard and heavy duty varieties.
• Sunbrella® acrylic/polyester blend webbing: Standard variety.

Most of these webbings are available in multiple widths and colors, so you can customize your project as much as possible.

In addition, webbing comes in both flat and tubular forms. We offer flat versions of all our webbings. You can also get tubular webbing in nylon and polyester. Tubular webbing is hollow, stronger than flat, and able to hold a rope or cord. Using rope or cord with tubular webbing is not required though — it can be used the same as flat webbing.

Key Webbing Features to Consider

Not every webbing can be used in every project or environment because of the different fibers used to make them. Knowing the properties of each webbing is crucial to picking the one that best fits your project. Before you decide, think about these important factors:

• UV resistance: Will your project be fully indoors, fully outdoors or a combination?
• Abrasion resistance: Will your webbing be used in a high-traffic area or exposed to high levels of rubbing or chafing?
• Buoyancy: Do you need webbing that floats on water?
• Water absorption: Do you need webbing that stays mostly or completely dry when exposed to water or other liquids?
• Breaking strength: Do you need webbing for a weight-bearing application?
• Heat resistance: Do you need webbing that can withstand high temperatures?
• Stretch: Do you need webbing that has some give or that resists stretching?
